Borderlands 4 (BL4): Red Chest Locations & Interactive Tracking Guide

Red Chests are the gold standard for loot hunting in Borderlands 4. Distinct from standard Weapon Containers or White Chests, these caches have a significantly higher probability of dropping high-tier, rare, and even Legendary gear.

Not all chests are accessible immediately. Throughout Kairos, you will encounter three distinct variations, each requiring a different method to unlock:

Normal Red Chests: The standard variant. These are unlocked by default—simply find them and interact to claim your loot.
Chained Red Chests: These chests are physically wrapped in chains and "locked" by enemy presence. You must defeat all enemies in the immediate area (clearing the mob wave) to break the chains and open the chest.
Container Red Chests: These are located inside shipping containers protected by energy force fields. To lower the barrier, you must solve a localized puzzle, such as removing power batteries, shooting electrical fuses, or hacking a nearby console.

Unlike fixed collectibles, Red Chests have randomized spawn and respawn elements. While they often appear in specific zones, their availability can fluctuate, making a reliable map essential for efficient farming runs.
